High Level Workshop in Berlin with Michel Houdebine, Chief Economist at the French Ministry of Finance and the Economy
Emmanuel Macron has vowed in his presidential election campaign to undertake large-scale economic reforms in France: Among other things he promised to restructure national public finances, to overhaul the tax system, and to liberalise the labour market.
What is the content of the recent initiatives by the new French government? And how promising are the reforms in Europe’s second-largest economy? To discuss this and other related questions, the workshop brought together high-level participants from the German Ministry of Finance, the Federal Foreign Office, and think tanks. Michel Houdebine, Chief Economist at the French Ministry of Finance. Mr. Houdebine gave a thorough insight into the state of implementation of Emmanuel Macron’s reform agenda before engaging in a discussion with the workshop participants.
The event was moderated by Lucas Guttenberg, senior researcher at the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin and organised as part of “Repair and Prepare “, a joint project of the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin.
