The Financial Times takes up some of our „boldest suggestions for how Ms von der Leyen can get off to the best start” of our Franco-German New Beginnings Series in their Brussels Briefing. Nicole Koenig recommends overcoming disunity on EU foreign and security policy with an annual “European Security Council”. Such a meeting would force the heads of state or government to focus solely on security issues while relevant neighbours could be invited. Regarding the reform of the Eurozone, Lucas Guttenberg recommends the new Commission to “develop its own clear, and above all coherent, stance on eurozone reform”. Here, the it should be careful not to constrain necessary economic stimulus.
